Trick or Treat?

I want my treat!

Did you know that “trick or treating” originated in medieval Europe?  The first appearance of this tradition dates as far back as the 10th century with the practice of “souling,” which involved going from door-to-door to solicit gifts of food in exchange for prayers for the dead.  Through the centuries this ritual evolved into its modern incarnation with the inclusion of costumes and mob-like “shake down” methods to elicit candy from neighbors – basically, “give us what we want or we will egg your house!”  Of course, hookers have their own version of trick or treating, except it would be more like, “you treat, and then you’ll get your trick”!  Have a wonderful and happy Halloween, everyone!!!

Thank you, Dana! In answer to your comment – yes, yes I did! I ate so much left-over chocolate that I must have gained at least a pound or two. It would have been more fun to have trick-or-treated myself into chocolate heaven, but consuming what was left after all the costumed cuties went home was good enough for me!
