To My Transvestite and Transsexual Friends: Shall it be the XX or XY Restroom?

Happy restroom adventures, y'all!

An age-old quandary:  shall us transgendered folk use our gender’s restroom or that of our alternate identity?  In my case, I can honestly say that I would generate far too much attention if I were to walk into the Men’s room – especially if I used the urinal!  On the other hand, utilizing the Women’s room presents complications of its own in that some females are very sensitive about anyone other than genetic XXers making use of their facilities (and yes, I have had a few complaints…at a strip club of all places!).

Here is my advice:  as long as you are committed to the female role and don’t use taking a pee break as a perverted excuse to get your kicks, then utilize the women’s room.  Be polite, keep your eyes fixed on the stall, and for goodness sake don’t be creepy – especially if there are children present.  Since I am fairly sure we don’t have a leg to stand on legally, if you are asked to leave I suggest you do so quietly and peacefully – make your stand later when you are safe from imprisonment.  So go forth and urinate with reckless abandon, my TG friends, and do so with a clear conscience knowing that the bathroom in which you do your business is for the gender you have chosen!

PS:  I use the Women’s room, if I didn’t make that clear!

I usually use the ladies room and I have not had any issues. I’m also fairly careful in that I use single person ladies rooms such as at small restaurants. The bars I frequent I’ve been invited as you know how ladies like to go in pairs.. .

This year in Baltimore there was a situation where a TS was seriously beaten by someone who took offense about her using the XX bathroom

What a horrible tragedy. There are much better ways of dealing with insecurity than beating up other people! As a TS, in utilizing a multi-stall men’s room I always make sure to avoid eye contact and keep to myself so as to reduce any possible misinterpretation of my intentions. Of course, there are those moments when people will approach you and being prepared for conflict is important. When faced with such circumstance I already have 911 dialed on my phone with my finger on the “send” button. Though this might not prevent hostility, at least you know that help is on the way. My prayers go out to the TS in Baltimore. Do you know her name?

PS: What I would like to ask is what may we do as a community to help prevent hate crimes such as this?

Great strategy, Dana! By using a single person restroom you avoid pretty much all potential conflict which may arise in a multi-stall setting, and by having a female invite you to the bathroom at a bar/club you have someone to back you up if anyone complains. Thank you for sharing!

If I saw you using the urinal I’d offer my help to ‘shake’ it. You are so damn beautiful it’s hard to believe anyone clocks you! 😉

    With Respect and Love,
    TJ

Ha! Thank you for the compliment, Tonya!!! Just to be clear, I’ve never been clocked for any reason while being Nikki or any of my previous incarnations (I’ve had a few – namely Amie and Robin). The reason is because I tend to be excessively up-front and honest about who and what I am, giving no one the opportunity to get either offended or embarrassed. It is the sudden and unpleasant surprise which brings out the violence in people, and revealing a TS status at an inopportune moment is certainly within that category. All that being said, if I ever need help “shaking it” I will definitely look for your assistance!
