The Wonders of Diversity – Don’t Be Afraid to Be Yourself

Me being me!

It wasn’t until I began my journey as a burgeoning transsexual dominatrix, escort, and model that I truly started to see the world for what it is – a living kaleidoscope of human diversity.  It is bright and loving, dark and evil, perfunctory and trite, raw and beautiful, hopeful and uplifting, hopeless and depressing…so many attractions and oppositions working together in a beautifully choreographed ballet with the universe applauding our every move.  I realized during those early years that we are here to do our bit…our schtick…to color our little piece of the world.  Whether you are good or bad, pretty or ugly, motivated or inert, you are the only “you” there will ever be – period – and that makes you unimaginably special.  Everything you do or don’t do is an absolutely unique and an irreplaceable part of life’s ballet, and once you are gone no one can ever…and I repeat, ever…play your part.

I guess what I am trying to say is that…perhaps…you shouldn’t beat yourself up too much if you didn’t get the job you wanted, failed at your marriage, or wound up in prison for robbing that bank.  Only you could have made those failures – no one else – and you will own that for the rest of time.  You made your special mark in the history of the universe that no one else could make.  Sure, it might have been better if you became the president of a bank instead of robbing one (and in some cases I see little difference), but you were born to do one particular thing – to be you, and you’ve done it brilliantly.

I love meeting people, both good and bad, because we are all like snowflakes.  Not one of us is exactly the same.  This would be true if we were all clones as well – though we may look alike we would all be different.  We all occupy our own space and all make our own decisions.  Even if you live your entire life following someone else’s orders, you…and only you…made that choice.  Yes, I spend a lot of time complaining about the stupid things people do and that we all need to make the world a better place, but in the end, maybe it is perfect just the way it is.

awesome blog post Nikki. it’s wonderful to remind people that even our mistakes make us who we are, and we shouldn’t live our lives regretting mistakes that we made. Always look to the future!
